Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-10-04
This policy describes how Sparklux Library (“the app”) handles information.
1. The developer receives nothing
The app has no account and no server. The developer never receives your videos, tags, file names or any other data. The app contains no analytics, no advertising SDK and no crash reporting.
The app never sends the following anywhere:
- The content of your videos or their thumbnails
- File names, folder names, locations (paths), or the names of disks and network shares
- Contact details such as your name, email address or phone number, or your location
- Identifiers used to track you across apps or devices
2. Stored on your Mac
| Information | Why |
|---|---|
| Registered folders (so they can be opened again), the list of videos (file names, duration, resolution and so on) and thumbnails | To show the library and let you find videos |
| Tags, favorites, playback positions and watched status | To organize and to resume playback |
| Display settings and a local copy of the free-trial start date | To keep your settings and the trial |
| Star ratings | To organize and filter your videos |
| Date and location recorded in your videos | To arrange videos in an album by the day they were taken and to show where they were taken (read in every library). In libraries where “Generate tags” is turned on, they are also used for date and place tags. The location is converted to a prefecture and city (or a country outside Japan) entirely on your Mac, using a list of place names built into the app. The date and location are never sent anywhere |
| Camera model recorded in your videos (only for libraries where “Camera” is chosen in “Generate tags”) | To add camera tags |
| Addresses and user names of shared folders (SMB servers) you register | To reconnect automatically when a share is disconnected. Passwords are stored in the macOS Keychain, not in the app’s storage |
- All of this stays inside the app’s own storage. Your video files are never written to (no Finder tags or extended attributes either).
- Libraries protected with a password are stored encrypted (list, tags and thumbnails). The password itself is never stored.
- Nothing is indexed by Spotlight.
- macOS may keep the app’s storage after you delete the app. To remove it, delete
~/Library/Containers/dev.monneural.sparklux.libraryin the Finder (see “Removing your data” in Help).
3. Stored in iCloud (if you use iCloud sync)
To keep tags in step between Macs using the same Apple Account, the following is stored in your own private iCloud database:
- Tags, favorites, playback positions and watched status. Videos are identified by a value derived from their contents; file names and paths are never sent
- Library names, and the key needed to open a password-protected library (wrapped with your password, not the password itself)
- The start date of the free trial (so that reinstalling does not reset it)
Tags and the other contents are encrypted on your Mac before they are sent. The developer cannot read them. Everything except sync works if you are not signed in to iCloud or cannot reach it. You can delete the iCloud data in System Settings → Apple Account → iCloud → Manage storage.
4. Purchases
Purchases are processed by Apple (the App Store). The app never receives or stores payment details. Whether you have purchased is determined on your Mac from information issued by Apple.
5. Network activity
| When | What | To whom |
|---|---|---|
| iCloud sync and free-trial management | The information in section 3 | Apple iCloud |
| Purchase and restore | Purchase verification | Apple |
| Opening Help or this page | Fetching the page (done by your browser) | The help website |
| You press Download for the “judge by name” model in Auto Tagging | Fetching the public model weights only (which model is requested). Your videos, frames, tag names and file names are never sent. Judging happens only on your Mac | Hugging Face (huggingface.co and its delivery network) |
The app has no feature to open videos from a URL (web address), and it does not run external programs such as yt-dlp.
6. Children’s privacy
The app collects no personal information from anyone, and does not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
7. Changes
If this policy changes, this page will be updated and the “Last updated” date revised. Significant changes will also be noted in the app’s release notes.
